The Federal Republic of Germany has appointed Abhay Kamal Mangaldas as the Honorary Consul of Germany in Ahmedabad, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with the western region of India, particularly the state of Gujarat.

 

Strengthening Germany–Gujarat Engagement

 

The appointment is part of Germany’s broader efforts to deepen regional engagement in India by enhancing institutional cooperation and expanding its on-ground presence in key economic hubs.

 

As Honorary Consul, Mangaldas will represent German interests in Gujarat and work towards fostering closer collaboration between German and Indian institutions. He will also extend select consular services to German nationals residing in or visiting the region.

Highlighting the significance of the appointment, German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, said: “The Federal Republic of Germany is confident that Mr. Mangaldas’s appointment as Honorary Consul will significantly enhance cooperation between Germany and Gujarat, especially in key sectors such as industry, innovation, education, renewables, and sustainable development. Germany and India celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, built on mutual trust, democratic values, and a shared vision for global progress.”

 

He emphasized that the move aligns with the growing scope of India–Germany collaboration across emerging and future-oriented sectors.

Christoph Hallier, Consul General of Germany in Mumbai, underscored Gujarat’s increasing relevance in international partnerships: “The appointment of an Honorary Consul in Ahmedabad reflects Gujarat’s growing importance as a hub for economic activity and international collaboration.”
