Indian battery manufacturer Exide Industries Limited has entered into a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with Germany-based ExCom Energy Solutions GmbH to expand its industrial battery and energy-storage business across the European Economic Area (EEA).
Signed on September 15, 2026, the agreement combines Exide India’s manufacturing capabilities and battery portfolio with ExCom’s regional market presence, application-engineering expertise and customer-support infrastructure.
Products offered under the partnership will be marketed and sold under the ExCom brand.
Partnership Targets European Industrial Market
Under the agreement, ExCom will serve as the central commercial and technical interface for customers across the EEA. The German company will oversee customer development, distribution, technical project support and after-sales coordination.
The partnership will initially focus on traction and motive-power batteries used in material-handling equipment, logistics operations and other industrial-mobility applications. It will also cover stationary battery systems for industrial facilities, infrastructure and energy-storage applications.
The companies plan to offer solutions spanning battery systems, charging technologies, system integration, application engineering and lifecycle services. These will be adapted to the technical, regulatory and operational requirements of customers across the EEA.
Combining Indian Manufacturing with German Market Expertise
Exide Industries Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Avik Roy described the EEA as a “strategically important market for Exide India’s industrial energy storage business.”
He said demand for dependable, efficient and sustainable energy solutions was growing across the region. According to Roy, ExCom’s market access, application expertise and local execution capabilities would complement Exide India’s manufacturing strength and industrial-battery portfolio.
ExCom Managing Director Holger Aschke said the agreement had created a “strong platform for serving customers across the European Economic Area.”
He said the companies aimed to provide competitive, application-specific energy solutions while supporting customers throughout the battery lifecycle—from product selection and system design to installation, operation, maintenance and service.
Aschke added that ExCom intends to build a robust European platform for traction batteries with Exide India while exploring opportunities in next-generation industrial energy storage.
Advanced-Chemistry Solutions Could Follow
While the initial portfolio will focus on established industrial battery applications, Exide and ExCom have also identified opportunities to extend their cooperation into selected advanced-chemistry solutions.
Exide Industries is developing advanced-chemistry cells, modules and battery packs through its wholly owned subsidiary, Exide Energy Solutions Limited. It also has an established presence in lead-acid batteries across automotive, industrial, infrastructure and mobility applications.
The agreement gives Exide a regional commercial and technical channel through which it can expand its access to European customers. For ExCom, it provides access to Exide’s manufacturing base, technology portfolio and experience in industrial battery systems.
The partnership reflects a broader pattern of India–Germany industrial cooperation in which Indian manufacturing capabilities are being combined with German engineering, market knowledge and customer networks. Its progress will now depend on customer acquisition and the companies’ ability to tailor their products to Europe’s technical and regulatory requirements.
