From June 23 to 29, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will host the 11th edition of India Week Hamburg, bringing together over 70 events across the city to honour the enduring and evolving partnership between India and Germany. This year’s theme, “Positioning Partnerships,” sets the stage for a high-impact week of dialogue, discovery, and cultural celebration.
A High-Level Opening at Hamburg City Hall
India Week 2025 will begin with a formal Senate Reception at the Hamburg City Hall on June 23, marking the official launch of the week-long festival. The opening will feature keynote addresses by:
H.E. Ajit Gupte, Ambassador of India to Germany
Dr. Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India
Shabana Azmi, award-winning Indian actress and activist
Their addresses will highlight the strength of Indo-German relations and the role of cultural diplomacy in shaping global partnerships.
A Four-Pillar Programme: Business, Culture, Society, and Knowledge
India Week Hamburg 2025 is structured around four key thematic areas — each designed to bring together thought leaders, institutions, entrepreneurs, and communities.
Business: Trade, Innovation, and Startups
Two major events anchor the business programme on June 24:
Hamburg India Business Day, co-hosted by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and Hamburg-based business leaders, will focus on trade logistics, economic policy, and innovation.
German-Indian Innovation Night will spotlight deep tech, artificial intelligence, and opportunities for startup collaboration across borders.
These sessions will offer platforms for networking, knowledge-sharing, and practical deal-making between Indian and German enterprises.
Culture: Music, Cuisine, and Performing Arts
India Week’s cultural offerings celebrate the artistic vibrancy of both countries.
Curry & Culture – India Food Fest on June 29 will bring Indian cuisine, music, and dance to the public in a colourful street celebration.
Visual art exhibitions, dance recitals, and musical performances will be hosted at multiple venues throughout the city.
These events are free and open to all, offering immersive access to Indian and German cultural expression.
Society: Inclusion, Sustainability, and Communication
A wide variety of workshops and panel discussions will address:
Strategic communication in diplomacy and storytelling
Legal reform and sustainable mobility in India
LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the labour market
Women in green jobs and climate-focused industries
This segment of the programme is geared toward fostering equitable, sustainable, and inclusive models of cooperation between the two nations.
Knowledge: Academia, Wellness, and Traditional Systems
The knowledge track includes sessions on:
Cross-disciplinary research between Indian and German universities
Traditional Indian wellness systems like Ayurveda, explored in the modern health context
Opportunities for young professionals and students to engage in future-focused Indo-German academic collaboration
