In a significant move to empower women through sports, the Rajasthan government has partnered with Borussia Dortmund, a prominent German football club, to support and nurture female football talent in the state.
This collaboration follows the recent victory of Rajasthan’s junior girls’ team in the Junior National Football Championship, where they triumphed over Karnataka with a 3-1 score in the Tier-2 final, securing promotion to Tier 1. The partnership, initiated during Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s recent visit to Germany, aims to strengthen women’s involvement in sports and foster development in rural areas.
Specialized Training Programs and International Opportunity
Under the agreement, Borussia Dortmund will conduct training programs for young female players and select one talented athlete from Rajasthan for a week-long training session in Germany. This initiative seeks to provide local athletes exposure to Germany’s rich football culture, with the aim of raising the standard of women’s football in Rajasthan.
Recently, Borussia Dortmund’s head of Asia Pacific, Julia Farr, led a workshop in Dheengsari village, Bikaner district, to train 14 young players from the area, along with selected government trainers. Most players from Rajasthan’s victorious junior team hail from this village.
Julia Farr praised the team’s accomplishment, stating, “Rajasthan’s triumph is an example of how grassroots efforts and passion can lead to excellence. It’s inspiring to see young athletes from a single village bringing glory to the state.”
