Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Calls India-Germany Partnership a “Living Bridge” at News9 Global Summit

Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia delivered a compelling address at the News9 Global Summit in Stuttgart, Germany, emphasizing the transformative potential of the India-Germany partnership. 

Speaking on the theme “India and Germany: Connected for durable growth”, Scindia outlined a four-pillar strategy for strengthening ties in trade, defense, cultural exchanges, and sustainability.

India-Germany Trade: A Strong Foundation 

Highlighting Germany’s significant investments in India, Scindia said, “Germany is one of the largest FDI investors in India. Over 2,000 German companies today are present in India with an investment exceeding $15 billion.” 

He acknowledged the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in expanding the bilateral trade volume, which currently stands at nearly $26.5 billion. 

Enhancing Defense Collaboration 

Scindia called for increased cooperation in defense manufacturing, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region. “The Indo-Pacific is no longer the Asia-Pacific. Security, peace, and tranquillity are mandatory in that area,” he stated, suggesting collaborations between Indian defense startups and German manufacturers to boost strategic ties. 

Cultural and Educational Synergy 

Cultural and educational exchanges emerged as a key focus area, with Scindia emphasizing the role of Indian students in fostering innovation through Germany’s technology ecosystem. He pointed to the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, which draws inspiration from Germany’s vocational training model. 

“Our partnership offers immense opportunities in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and renewables,” Scindia said.

Commitment to Sustainability 

Scindia spotlighted India’s green initiatives, such as the Indo-German Green and Sustainable Development Partnership and the Green Hydrogen Task Force, which aim to achieve shared decarbonization goals. “Close to €3.2 billion have been invested in this relationship,” he noted, reaffirming India’s commitment to the Paris Agreement targets. 

A “Living Bridge” Between Two Nations 

Concluding his speech, Scindia described the India-Germany partnership as a “living bridge” built on shared values and ideals. “This bridge is not built of steel or stone but of shared beliefs, ideals, and values. Our connection is powered by people, ideas, and the vision to empower the world,” he said. 

Scindia’s address underscored India’s readiness to collaborate with Germany across diverse sectors, reinforcing the two nations’ standing as global leaders in sustainable innovation and economic growth.
