Germany’s commitment to its partnership with India will remain steadfast despite the change in leadership in Berlin, German Ambassador to India Dr. Philipp Ackermann assured while addressing the NXT Forum 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

He emphasized that Indo-German relations are built on a strong foundation that transcends political shifts. “Regardless of who takes office in Berlin, our approach towards India will remain consistent. Germany recognizes India as a key partner, and that will not change,” he stated. Ackermann suggested that senior members of the new German government might visit India in the coming months to reinforce bilateral ties.

India’s Economic Growth Welcomed by Germany

As India moves towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2030, Germany acknowledges and welcomes its rise, Ackermann noted. He recognized India’s rapid economic trajectory and acknowledged that the country may surpass Germany in global rankings sooner than expected.

“We are keenly observing India’s growth. A nation of 1.4 billion people, with an expanding economy, is naturally positioned to climb the global economic ladder. If India overtakes Germany in economic size in the coming years, it would not be surprising. In fact, it presents new opportunities for stronger cooperation between our nations,” he remarked.

Growing Business Prospects Between India and Germany

Highlighting the increasing interest of German businesses in India, Ackermann emphasized that as India’s industrial and private sectors continue to integrate into the global economy, Indo-German trade relations will only strengthen. “This is a remarkable opportunity for businesses in both countries to collaborate and expand. As India becomes a larger player in the global economy, we expect to see deeper engagement from German industries,” he explained.

German Elections and Political Transition

Germany held its general elections on February 23, with the center-right conservative bloc emerging as the leading force while far-right nationalist parties made notable gains. The process of coalition negotiations is now underway, and a new government is expected to take office by April 20.

Discussing Germany’s evolving political landscape, Ackermann highlighted the coalition-building phase as a critical step in forming a stable government. “The Conservative Party has secured victory, but they will need to form a coalition to establish a majority in parliament. This process will take a few weeks, possibly months. However, Germany will ultimately have a stable and well-functioning government that upholds centrist values,” he said.

Despite the leadership change in Berlin, he reassured that Germany’s diplomatic approach toward India would remain consistent. He expressed confidence that Chancellor-elect Friedrich Merz would continue fostering the strong and friendly ties that have characterized Indo-German relations.

NXT Forum: A Platform for Global Innovation

The NXT Forum 2025, where Ackermann addressed these issues, served as a key platform for discussing global economic shifts, technological advancements, and sustainability challenges. Bringing together world leaders, industry experts, and policymakers, the conclave focused on shaping the future of economies and industries.

The event also featured pioneering research presentations, product debuts, and exclusive leadership discussions aimed at fostering international collaboration and sustainable growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Guest at the event, reinforcing India’s leadership in global governance and innovation.
