In a strategic move to create structured international job pathways for Indian healthcare professionals, Indian workforce mobility platform BorderPlus has acquired Onea Care, a German healthcare recruitment firm. The acquisition, announced on Tuesday, marks BorderPlus’ first international buyout and signals its intent to expand operations in Europe and other high-demand markets.
Commitment for Global Expansion
BorderPlus, headquartered in Bengaluru, has committed $10 million toward mergers and acquisitions to solidify its presence in India, Germany, and other destination markets. The company aims to introduce digital-first solutions to streamline hiring, improve language training, and facilitate the seamless integration of healthcare professionals into foreign workforces.
“This acquisition is a major step toward ensuring that Indian nurses and healthcare professionals have access to structured, fair, and high-quality job opportunities in Germany,” said BorderPlus co-founders Ayush Mathur and Mayank Kumar in a joint statement. “We will continue to explore similar opportunities across key markets to expand our presence and offer Indian talent a transparent alternative to exploitative recruitment models.”
Germany’s Nursing Shortage Creates Urgent Demand
The acquisition comes at a time when Germany is grappling with a significant shortage of nursing staff. The country is projected to need an additional 150,000 nurses by 2025, with this number rising to 500,000 by 2030 due to demographic shifts and increasing pressure on its healthcare infrastructure.
India, known for producing highly skilled nurses, is seen as a crucial partner in addressing these workforce gaps. Ethical and structured migration pathways are considered essential to sustaining Germany’s healthcare system while ensuring fair treatment for foreign-trained professionals.
Onea Care’s Role in Ethical Recruitment
Onea Care, founded by Leon Bauer, is a German staffing and business consultancy specializing in the recruitment of non-EU nurses. The firm has established partnerships with hospitals, universities, and healthcare networks across Germany.
Bauer, who will continue to play a leadership role, called the acquisition a “game-changer.”
“BorderPlus shares Onea Care’s deep commitment to quality and fairness in healthcare recruitment,” Bauer said. “Combining Onea Care’s experience in sourcing top healthcare talent with BorderPlus’ focus on Indian healthcare growth strengthens the company’s ability to scale ethical recruitment solutions while catering to Germany’s growing need for nurses.”
BorderPlus’ Mission: Ethical and Transparent Hiring
BorderPlus provides workforce mobility solutions tailored to Indian professionals seeking international careers. With a particular emphasis on healthcare workers, the platform offers language training, skill development, visa assistance, and employment opportunities to facilitate seamless transitions into global job markets.
The company’s leadership emphasized that their approach prioritizes transparency and worker protection, aiming to eliminate illegal recruitment traps that many Indian healthcare workers fall into when seeking opportunities abroad.
As Germany accelerates efforts to address its nursing shortage, partnerships like the one between BorderPlus and Onea Care are expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of ethical healthcare recruitment while ensuring skilled Indian professionals find fair and structured employment opportunities overseas.
