In a move poised to strengthen international cooperation in education and agri-trade, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) hosted a high-level Indo-German collaboration meet on 7 April, aimed at equipping Northeast India’s youth with global skills and opening new doors for agricultural exports.

Indo-German partnership eyes skill-building and global jobs

Led by Sudhanshu Jangir, CEO of Gujarat-based Dr. Skill, the event brought together Indian academicians and German corporate representatives to discuss concrete ways to enhance job readiness and skill development. Participating German entities included Find-Jobs, MoschMosch, and The Bliss Group — companies keen on tapping into India’s talent and agri-resources.

The primary focus was to design training modules aligned with international industry standards, preparing students from Meghalaya and the broader Northeast region for employment opportunities in Europe and other global markets.

MoU to kickstart global virtual EMBA programs

A significant takeaway from the discussions was the decision to proceed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NEHU, Dr. Skill, and the Indo-European Institute of Skill Development and Sustainability (IISDS).

The partnership will roll out virtual Executive MBA (EMBA) programs centered on sustainability, innovation, and future-ready skills. These programs will receive backing from German firms, offering learners real-world exposure, cross-border learning experiences, and better access to overseas job markets.

Sudhanshu Jangir emphasized the broader vision behind the initiative, stating that the collaboration aims to “create bridges of opportunity for rural Indian youth, especially in the Northeast, by connecting them to global career paths.”

German firms show interest in Northeast’s cashew potential

Apart from education and skills, the meeting also spotlighted Meghalaya’s agricultural prospects. German delegates expressed a keen interest in directly sourcing cashew nuts from local farmers, a move expected to uplift rural incomes and support regional economic development.

This export initiative will be coordinated through the Indian Institute of Sustainability — a special purpose vehicle under NEHU — to streamline logistics and compliance.

A historic step for NEHU and the Northeast

Describing the meet as “historic,” NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. S. Shukla remarked that the collaboration marks a turning point for the university. “This alliance will not only extend NEHU’s academic influence into Europe but will also enrich the lives of students and farmers through access to global skill-building and trade platforms,” he said.

Way forward: Long-term cooperation in education, agri-business, and entrepreneurship

The summit concluded with an overwhelming consensus on the need for continued Indo-German cooperation in sectors such as education, sustainability, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.

All parties committed to working together in the long term to unlock global opportunities for the region’s youth and agri-producers, signaling a promising future for Northeast India on the international stage.
