German National Security Advisor Jens Plötner met with India’s NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on October 3rd, preparing for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s upcoming visit to India.

The visit, later this month, will feature wide-ranging talks between Scholz and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).

Strengthening India-Germany Relations

Plötner’s trip comes shortly after Jaishankar’s recent visit to Berlin, with both sides focusing on bolstering bilateral cooperation. The IGC serves as the highest forum for discussions on key areas such as trade, defense, investment, and people-to-people ties.

“Pleasure to meet Jens Plötner, Security & Foreign Policy Advisor to @Bundeskanzler. Continued our conversations from Berlin last month and took stock of preparations for the upcoming India-Germany IGC,” Jaishankar shared on X.

Fruitful Dialogue with Indian Officials

German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann described the discussions between Plötner and Doval as “fruitful.”

The meetings laid the groundwork for deepening collaboration in emerging technologies, digital platforms, renewable energy, and the green economy.

Focus on Strategic Areas

The upcoming IGC will also review opportunities for expanding cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, a priority for both India and Germany, as they look to enhance their strategic partnerships in a changing global landscape.
