As tensions between India and Pakistan continue in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, Germany has reiterated its unequivocal support for India’s fight against terrorism. During a meeting with an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation in Berlin on June 6, 2025, German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul strongly condemned the Pahalgam incident and expressed solidarity with India’s call for zero tolerance toward terrorism and its resolve to resist nuclear intimidation.

Germany Extends Solidarity with India

In the key meeting on June 6, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told Indian lawmakers that Germany stands firmly with India in its battle against terrorism. This declaration came during the delegation’s outreach visit to Germany, part of India’s broader diplomatic campaign following the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam. Minister Wadephul also referred to his earlier discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, reaffirming shared concerns over regional security.

An official statement from the Indian Embassy in Berlin noted that Germany “strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and extended its steadfast support for India’s stand against terrorism.”

India Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy

The visiting delegation, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, presented India’s unified stance against terrorism to German officials, including parliamentarians, diplomats, and members of key think tanks. Speaking after the meeting on June 6, Mr. Prasad emphasized that terrorism remains a direct threat to democratic societies and urged democratic nations to act collectively.

“We conveyed that Pakistan-backed terrorism poses a grave challenge to global peace. India will neither tolerate terror nor yield to nuclear threats,” he said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The Indian side underlined that its retaliatory measures following the April 22 attack were “measured and non-escalatory” and based on a clear distinction that there is no difference between terrorists and those who support or shelter them.

Strategic Partnership and Democratic Values

Beyond counterterrorism cooperation, both countries explored avenues to deepen the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. The two sides discussed strengthening bilateral engagement in areas such as global security, rule-based international order, and shared democratic principles.

A statement from the Indian Embassy highlighted that New Delhi’s firm position found “resonance across top German leadership, reinforcing the depth of the India-Germany relationship.”

Meetings with German Lawmakers and Think Tanks

The Indian MPs met several Bundestag members, including Armin Laschet, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Jürgen Hardt, CDU spokesperson; and MPs Ralph Brinkhaus and Hubertus Heil, on June 7, 2025. Laschet said he was “deeply shocked” by the Pahalgam attack and affirmed that Germany remains committed to countering global terrorism in collaboration with India.

Additionally, the delegation engaged with influential German think tanks, including the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, exchanging views on regional security and global peace-building.

Diaspora Engagement and Public Solidarity

During the Berlin visit, the Indian delegation also met with representatives of the Indian diaspora on June 6, holding an interaction at the Indian Embassy. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the Pahalgam victims, and community leaders expressed strong support for India’s actions.

Ravi Shankar Prasad lauded the diaspora’s unity and resilience, stating, “The Indian community in Germany stands as a proud reflection of our shared values and strength in times of crisis.”

#OperationSindoor and Broader Outreach

The visit to Germany was part of #OperationSindoor, a diplomatic initiative launched by India following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Under this campaign, Indian parliamentary teams are visiting 33 countries to raise awareness about cross-border terrorism and Pakistan’s role in enabling it. Germany was one of the stops after the delegation visited Belgium earlier.

This outreach follows India’s precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, 2025.

On May 10, following four days of heightened cross-border tensions, India and Pakistan agreed to cease military hostilities after talks between their Directors General of Military Operations.

A Unified Indian Front

The multi-party delegation to Germany, which concluded its visit on June 7, included MPs from across the political spectrum: Daggubati Purandeswari, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Ghulam Ali Khatana, Amar Singh, Samik Bhattacharya, M. Thambidurai, former Minister of State M.J. Akbar, and former diplomat Pankaj Saran.

MP Priyanka Chaturvedi summed up the mission on X by stating that she concluded the visit with a sense of satisfaction: “India stands together, resolute in its fight against terrorism.”
