Nearly seven months after entering the Indian market, Germany’s FlixBus has extended its reach to southern India. The company launched 14 new buses on six routes connecting 33 cities, including Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Coimbatore, with Bengaluru serving as a central hub.

Flagged Off by Karnataka’s Commerce Minister

Karnataka’s Minister of Commerce and Industries, MB Patil, officially flagged off the new bus services on September 3 in Bengaluru. He highlighted the significance of FlixBus’ expansion for regional connectivity.

“With operations in 40+ countries, they are set to enhance public transport options and connectivity. Proud to flag off these buses, driving sustainable and efficient travel across the region,” Patil said in a post on X.

Promotional Offer for New Routes

FlixBus announced a promotional fare of INR 99 to mark the launch of its new routes in South India. This offer is exclusive to the routes surrounding Bengaluru, available for booking between September 3 and September 15. Travel under this promotion will be valid from September 10 to October 6.

FlixBus’ Growing Presence in India

In a LinkedIn post, FlixBus confirmed its growing footprint in India, now covering 101 cities. The company first entered the Indian market in February 2024, launching its operations with a base in Delhi.

Collaborating with five local bus companies, FlixBus initially connected 46 cities in the northern part of the country, including Ayodhya, Lucknow, and Manali.

Collaboration with Local Operators and Paytm Partnership

As part of its southern expansion, FlixBus plans to collaborate with local bus operators to streamline its services in the region. Earlier in July, FlixBus partnered with Paytm, allowing users to book bus tickets directly through the Paytm app, making it easier for travelers to access their services.

Global Presence and Ambitious Plans

Founded in 2011, FlixBus operates low-cost intercity bus services across more than 40 countries in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. With its recent expansion into southern India, the company continues to strengthen its commitment to providing affordable and sustainable travel options.
