In a major step to advance Indo-German cooperation in renewable energy, Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), will visit India from October 29 to November 1, 2025, leading a high-level business delegation focused on expanding clean energy collaboration.

Focus on Wind Energy Partnerships in Chennai

The visit begins in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on October 29, where Saathoff and his delegation will hold talks with Indian industry leaders and associations from the wind energy sector.
On October 30, he will inaugurate India’s largest international wind energy trade fair, joined by senior Indian government officials and business representatives. The event aims to deepen industrial partnerships, foster co-investment, and enhance technology transfer between Indian and German renewable energy enterprises.

Engagements in Delhi on Solar, Bioenergy, and Workforce Development

Following the Chennai engagements, Saathoff will travel to New Delhi on October 31 for discussions with Indian government officials, industry associations, and companies in the solar and bioenergy sectors. The meetings will also address energy storage, workforce training, and skilled labor mobility, aligning with Germany’s commitment to support India’s renewable energy transition.

Germany’s Support for India’s 500 GW Renewable Energy Target

Germany has reaffirmed its partnership with India in achieving the 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030.

The BMZ underlined the motto “German engineering, Indian manufacturing,” emphasizing collaboration to build resilient and diversified supply chains for renewable technologies. The initiative aims to strengthen both nations’ competitiveness and reduce dependence on single-source suppliers.

India–Germany Renewable Energy Platform Expands

The India–Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide, launched during the RE-Invest 2024 conference in Gujarat, has become a key pillar of bilateral cooperation.

Four working groups have now commenced work in strategic areas—solar energy, wind energy, battery storage, and skilled workforce/R&D—to connect companies, research institutions, and policymakers in both countries.

Shared Vision for Sustainable Growth

Ahead of the visit, BMZ reaffirmed that Germany remains a reliable partner for India in building a sustainable and inclusive global energy future.

“Together, German and Indian industries can set new standards for green innovation and secure supply chains,” the ministry noted, adding that German firms and R&D institutions are prepared for even deeper collaboration with India.
