Hero Motors Company (HMC) and SchmiedeTechnik Plettenberg GmbH & Co. KG (STP) have signed a strategic joint venture to manufacture forged powertrain parts in India for global markets. The agreement, announced on March 7, marks a significant step in strengthening India’s position as a key player in the global automotive supply chain.

India-Germany Collaboration for Advanced Manufacturing

The partnership combines HMC’s large-scale production expertise with STP’s precision engineering in high-performance automotive components. Production is set to begin in mid-2026, integrating world-class forging expertise with advanced technology.

A signing ceremony at HMC’s corporate office in Delhi brought together the leadership teams, including HMC Group Chairman Pankaj M Munjal and Georg Enzweiler from the German Embassy in New Delhi.

Leveraging Strengths for Competitive Edge

• HMC’s Role: The Indian automotive giant contributes its large-scale manufacturing capabilities and vision for mobility innovation.

• STP’s Contribution: As a German “hidden champion,” STP brings its deep expertise in forging precision parts for the European automotive industry.

• Market Focus: The joint venture aims to cater to both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) applications, tapping into emerging global trends.

Driving the Future of Mobility

HMC has a strong history of collaborating with global automotive brands like BMW, Ducati, McLaren, and Harley-Davidson, underlining its commitment to innovation. The company’s 50-acre state-of-the-art facility in Ludhiana is a key hub for EV manufacturing and contract production services.

STP, known for its expertise in gears, transmission systems, and alloy components, strengthens the venture’s capability to meet the increasing demand for high-precision automotive parts.

As global markets evolve, partnerships like this position India and Germany at the forefront of technological advancement and mobility solutions.
