Economic Day India: Strategies for Success in the Booming Market

Mr. Amir Alizadeh, Head of the International Division at IHK Ulm, and Mr. Amir Bashir, Head of Commerce at the Consulate General of India in Munich, warmly welcomed all the attendees. Both highlighted the economic powerhouse that India is becoming and shared important trade statistics between the two nations.

 

The first speaker of the afternoon was Mr. Dirk Matter, Director of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in Düsseldorf. He provided crucial insights into the current economic and political situation in India. He passionately discussed industry-specific business opportunities, market entry strategies, and intercultural particularities.

 

He was followed by Ms. Gabriele Borchard, Head of the Competence Center India at IHK Rhein-Neckar, who presented on the topic “Exports to India.” This technical topic requires special expertise and attention. Backed by various case studies and examples, she illustrated different export certification regulations and provided detailed information on handling export business to India.

 

After an interactive coffee break, Ms. Caroline Hambrügge, Director of G.P.S. Procurement (India) Pvt. Ltd., shared her experiences in doing business in India. She revealed valuable tips on successfully managing their purchasing team in India. She emphasized the importance of considering the supply chain and thoroughly drafting contracts with essential clauses.

 

Mr. Magnus Graf Bülow, Lawyer at Rödl & Partner, was the next speaker to shed light on the “Make in India Mittelstand” project, a joint endeavor by the German and Indian governments, where Rödl & Partner serves as the Knowledge Partner. He explained the various benefits and onboarding procedures of this initiative, which aims to assist small and mid-sized German companies interested in doing business in India.

 

The final presentation was given by Mr. Dimitrios Xirofotos, Director of Sales APAC/AMS at Spohn & Burkhardt GmbH & Co. KG in Blaubeuren and Managing Director of Spohn & Burkhardt India in Bengaluru. He spoke about “Market Opportunities in India,” beginning with positive business expectations and highlighting India’s growing importance as an investment location for German companies. He reiterated that the three factors making India attractive are low labor costs, political stability, and qualified specialists.

 

The event concluded with a round of interesting questions for all the speakers, followed by a dinner that further fueled curiosity about a country that offers large domestic consumption demand, democracy, rule of law, and a transparent economy.
