Peak XV Partners-backed fabless semiconductor startup, Mindgrove Technologies, has launched Secure IoT, India’s inaugural high-performance SoC (system-on-chip), aimed at revolutionizing the semiconductor market.
Developed in collaboration with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and IIT Madras Incubation Cell, this groundbreaking chip aims to disrupt the semiconductor market, offering advanced features at a reduced cost.
Secure IoT promises high-end features at a 30% reduced cost, empowering Indian OEMs to integrate indigenous technology into their products without compromising quality.
Shashwath TR, CEO and Co-founder of Mindgrove Technologies, highlighted the significance of this advancement, stating, “The pandemic revealed the wide gap between high-end and low-end players in the embedded systems space, with the latter prioritising cost and volume over the chip’s actual performance”.
Designed for versatility, Secure IoT boasts a clock speed of 700MHz, making it the sole commercially available Indian chip in its segment.
The chip’s versatility spans across various applications, from wearables to smart city devices like connected electricity, water, and gas meters to connected home devices like smart locks, fans, speakers, and even EV battery management systems, revolutionizing control systems and enhancing efficiency.
In addition to offering the chip itself, Mindgrove provides crucial design support to Indian brands, fostering innovation and promoting self-sufficiency in the semiconductor industry.
“Thus, we set out to design chips that target the middle market. ‘Right-sizing’ has been the key differentiating factor when it comes to Mindgrove, giving it an edge over others, with enhanced flexibility, adaptability, security and cost-efficiency coupled with a robust support system.”
Mindgrove’s successful MPW tape-out at the 28nm node signifies a significant milestone in semiconductor prototyping, paving the way for innovative applications across various industries.
Secure IoT’s introduction marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey towards technological self-reliance and global recognition in the semiconductor and electronics sectors, and lead India into a new era of semiconductor innovation.
