Samir Ahmad Wagay, a PhD scholar in mathematics from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, has been chosen to join 200 young researchers from across the globe at the 12th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) in Germany, an international gathering focused on mathematics and computer science. The event will take place in Heidelberg from September 14 to 19, 2025.

Academic Pathway at NIT Srinagar

Wagay is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in the Department of Mathematics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, under the supervision of Dr. Rameez Raja. His selection comes after a highly competitive review process conducted by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) and scientific organizations worldwide, which evaluate candidates based on their academic achievements and research potential.

Gathering of Scientific Luminaries and Young Talent

Launched in 2013, the Heidelberg Laureate Forum brings together young researchers with award-winning scientists in mathematics and computer science. Participants interact with laureates of renowned honors such as the Abel Prize, the ACM A.M. Turing Award, the Fields Medal, and the Nevanlinna Prize.

The week-long event includes lectures, discussions, and networking sessions, offering early-career researchers a chance to exchange ideas and build professional connections. According to HLFF, the forum aims to encourage collaboration and inspire future scientific work.

Sponsored Participation

Wagay’s travel, accommodation, and participation costs will be fully covered by the HLFF, enabling him to focus on the academic programs and networking opportunities during the forum.

The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation, which organizes the event, was established in 2012 by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung, a foundation in Germany that promotes science and mathematics. Since its inception, the forum has connected hundreds of young researchers with leaders in their fields.
