Over 80 German higher education and research institutions are visiting India this month to bolster academic and research collaborations. The delegation will engage in high-profile visits to Indian universities and research institutions, participate in key conferences, and inaugurate new initiatives, underscoring the deepening Indo-German educational partnership.

The engagements include the inauguration of the German School of Technology at PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, the Indo-German Forum: Research, Innovation, and Transfer, the DAAD Jubilee Celebrations in New Delhi, and participation in the APAIE Conference 2025. German Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Dr. Philipp Ackermann, is set to be present at several of these milestone events.

“The Indo-German partnership in science and education is stronger than ever. It is one of the building blocks of our bilateral ties. We have almost 50,000 Indian students in Germany, the largest group of foreign students from any country. Indian scientists are contributing to our research landscape, with their talents, their ambitions, and their discoveries. It is a pleasure to see this exchange grow so dynamically, from year to year.” – Dr. Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India and Bhutan.

Key Academic Engagements and Collaborations

The first major event in this initiative is the Higher Education Policy Information visit, taking place from March 16 to March 22, 2025, in Hyderabad and New Delhi. This visit brings together 20 heads of top German universities and representatives of academic institutions in India to explore potential collaborations and strengthen institutional partnerships in higher education and research.

Parallelly, in Coimbatore, representatives of German Universities of Applied Sciences gathered for the inauguration of the German School of Technology at PSG College of Technology. This initiative, financially supported by DAAD, is a significant step in enhancing Indo-German academic ties, particularly in engineering and technology. The school aims to drive innovation and collaboration, providing Indian students with access to advanced German educational expertise.

Indo-German Forum and DAAD Jubilee: Strengthening Educational Bonds

A major highlight of the visit is the Indo-German Forum: Research, Innovation, and Transfer, where 250 representatives from German and Indian higher education and research institutions will convene. Organized by DWIH New Delhi and the DAAD Regional Office in New Delhi, the forum aims to reinforce academic and research ties, creating new opportunities for collaboration in education and scientific research.

Adding to the celebrations, the DAAD Jubilee marks 65 years of DAAD’s presence in India and a century of its commitment to fostering global academic exchanges.

“As we mark the centennial of DAAD and 65 years of DAAD presence in India, we are building upon a robust partnership forged over many decades. The participation of over 80 German higher education institutions in India this March shows a growing interest in deepening our academic relations. These events demonstrate our commitment to continuing and enhancing academic and research exchanges, including partnerships in higher education, research, and innovation between India and Germany.” – Dr. Katja Lasch, Director, DAAD Regional Office New Delhi.

German Universities at APAIE 2025 in New Delhi

From March 25 to 27, 2025, the DAAD will also participate in the APAIE Conference in New Delhi, with over 70 German universities showcasing their academic programs at the German Pavilion. In addition, the delegation will visit multiple universities across Delhi to explore further partnerships and collaborations.

A Catalyst for Future Academic Growth

These initiatives and engagements mark a significant milestone in Indo-German academic cooperation, serving as a catalyst for deeper collaboration in education and research. The overwhelming participation from German universities underscores their commitment to strengthening partnerships with India, fostering global learning environments, and advancing scientific development through cross-border exchanges.
