Article: Chennai-based TVS Motor Co has initiated exports of the BMW CE 02 electric scooter, a product of its long-standing partnership with BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of German automaker BMW Group.
The CE 02, jointly developed by the two companies, commenced manufacturing in October 2023.
TVS’ EV Exports for FY2024:
According to the electric two-wheeler export wholesales data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for FY2024, TVS shipped a total of 1,173 EVs overseas last fiscal year. Between April 2023 and end-February 2024, the EV export total was 249 units, including iQube electric scooters.
Notably, in March 2024, TVS Motor Co exported 924 units of a product listed as a ‘BMW EV’, presumably referring to the BMW CE 02.
Jointly Developed Platform:
The BMW CE 02 electric scooter is the second jointly developed platform by TVS and BMW Motorrad after the 310 series. This partnership has produced notable models such as the BMW G 310 R, 310 GS, G310 RR, Apache RR 310, and Apache RTR 310.
The CE 02 features a 15hp motor, a claimed range of 90 km on a single charge, and a top speed of 95kph.
Features and Specifications:
Weighing 132kg, the CE 02 boasts a double-loop steel tubular frame, USD fork/monoshock suspension setup, and a 296mm front disc with single-channel ABS.
Key features include keyless ignition, all-LED lighting, a reverse gear, and a 3.5-inch TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity. Riding modes include Surf, Flow, and an optional Flash mode available with the Highline accessory pack.
Expanding Export Operations:
TVS Motor Co, India’s second-largest two-wheeler exporter, shipped 8,87,774 units to overseas markets in FY2024, constituting 22 percent of its combined domestic and export sales.
The company’s products are sold in over 80 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Notably, TVS recently entered new markets like Nepal, Vietnam, and France.
In November 2023, TVS announced its entry into the European market through a distribution pact with the Emil Frey Group, with France being the first country for the launch of TVS Motor products, including the CE 02 e-scooter.
