Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday, 23 February, pitched for a strategic airport partnership between Germany and Uttar Pradesh, holding discussions in Frankfurt to explore cooperation between Frankfurt Airport and the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar as part of the state’s global investment outreach.

Maurya’s visit to Germany forms part of a broader international engagement under the Invest UP initiative aimed at attracting foreign investment, strengthening industrial ecosystems, and building global connectivity for the state.

Frankfurt–Jewar Airport Cooperation in Focus

During his visit, Maurya and the UP delegation held meetings with local leaders including Kelsterbach Mayor Manfred Ockel, Raunheim Mayor David Rendel, and Innovation RheinMain CEO Stefan Wittekind.

The discussions centred on establishing airport-to-airport collaboration between Frankfurt Airport — one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs — and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, which is expected to become a major logistics and passenger gateway for northern India.

According to officials, the proposed cooperation aims to enhance global supply-chain connectivity and attract international industries to Uttar Pradesh by leveraging aviation-led economic development.

Maurya highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to build a world-class industrial ecosystem supported by robust air connectivity. He invited German businesses to explore investment opportunities in the state, emphasising its policy support and infrastructure readiness.

MoU Framework and Industrial Delegation Proposed

Officials said both sides discussed creating a joint action framework covering logistics, innovation, data centres, and industrial growth. Talks are underway to formalise cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The German side also expressed interest in deeper engagement, and discussions included the possibility of an industrial delegation from Germany visiting Uttar Pradesh in the near future to explore sector-specific investments.

Engagement with Hessen Government

Beyond municipal interactions, the UP delegation met representatives from the Hessen state government, led by State Secretary Karin Müller, to explore broader institutional collaboration.

During the meeting, the UP team presented details of the state’s investment ecosystem, highlighting opportunities across sectors including medical devices, textiles, leather and footwear, semiconductors, defence manufacturing, IT and IT-enabled services, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), logistics, and data centres.

Officials noted that Uttar Pradesh already hosts over 660 MW of data-centre capacity and is positioning itself as a fast-growing digital and logistics hub.

The Hessen delegation shared insights into the state’s strengths in finance, chemicals, healthcare, agriculture, and logistics, with both sides agreeing to continue expert-level discussions to build long-term cooperation.

Part of Larger Global Investment Push

Maurya’s Germany visit coincides with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s parallel outreach in Singapore, where the state reportedly secured investment proposals worth nearly ₹20,000 crore during the initial phase of discussions.

Together, the twin international engagements signal Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to expand global partnerships, strengthen aviation-led industrial growth, and position itself as a competitive investment destination on the global stage.
