In a significant move to bolster its global expansion strategy, German lens manufacturer Zeiss Group India has announced an investment of ₹2,500 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility in Bangalore, Karnataka. This development underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing its presence in the Indian market. 

 

Focus on High-Precision Production

The new factory will specialize in producing high-precision optical lenses and advanced imaging solutions, serving both domestic and international markets. The facility is expected to significantly boost local production capabilities.

Miguel Diaz, Managing Director of Carl Zeiss India (Bangalore) Pvt. Ltd, emphasized the importance of this investment: “India is a key market for us with tremendous growth potential. This investment reflects our commitment to the region and our confidence in its future economic development.” He further noted that the factory would create numerous job opportunities and support local economic growth.

The Indian government has welcomed this investment, citing it as evidence of the country’s improving business environment and its attractiveness as a manufacturing hub. The new factory is projected to be operational by 2025, leveraging India’s skilled workforce and technological expertise.

Production Expansion

A report on Wednesday revealed that Carl Zeiss India plans to invest over 250 million euros in building the factory in Bangalore. The project, delayed previously, will commence construction next month with completion expected by October 2024. According to Miguel Gonzalez Diaz, Managing Director of Zeiss Group, the new factory aims to produce 260,000 lenses daily, six times the current production capacity in India. 

 

Employment Opportunities

The Bangalore factory will generate employment opportunities in both production and research and development sectors. Currently, Zeiss employs around 1,400 people in India, a number set to increase significantly with the new facility.
