Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, has embarked on a three-day official visit to Germany to enhance cooperation between India and key global partners in sustainable development and renewable energy.

The visit includes participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference from October 7 to 8, 2024, and a series of bilateral discussions with ministers and senior officials from Germany, the United Kingdom, and other countries.

India-Germany Collaboration in Focus

During his visit, Minister Joshi will emphasize the importance of expanding renewable energy cooperation and explore new avenues for investment in green hydrogen, low-cost finance, and renewable energy value chains.

This effort comes as India continues its aggressive push toward sustainability, positioning itself as a global leader in clean energy initiatives.

Green Shipping and Decarbonizing Mobility

At the Hamburg conference, the Minister will also highlight India’s stance on green shipping and the role of green hydrogen in decarbonizing the mobility sector, an area that is key to reducing the transportation industry’s carbon footprint.

Bilateral Talks with Global Leaders

In addition to his engagements at the conference, Joshi will hold high-level meetings with counterparts from Germany and the United Kingdom.

These discussions aim to deepen international partnerships and open up business opportunities that will drive the renewable energy sector both in India and globally.

Elevating India-Germany Relations

The visit is expected to further elevate India-Germany relations, ahead of the Inter-Governmental Consultations scheduled for October 2024 in India.

In September, during the RE-INVEST 2024 summit, the two countries launched the “India-Germany Platform for Investment in Renewable Energies” to drive investment and collaboration in clean energy technologies.

India’s Renewable Energy Commitments

India remains on track to achieve its ambitious Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goals, which include securing 50% of the country’s cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. The country’s long-term goal is to reach 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by the same year.

Joining the International Energy Efficiency Hub

In a related move, the Indian government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved India’s participation in the International Energy Efficiency Hub. This global platform promotes energy efficiency efforts worldwide and aligns with India’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, working toward its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Minister Joshi’s visit to Germany is expected to bolster India’s efforts in the renewable energy space, fostering global partnerships that support sustainable development and climate action.
