German carmaker Audi has begun local assembly of the new Q3 at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The model is scheduled to launch in India on October 16, adding a new generation of the SUV to Audi’s existing manufacturing operations in the country.
A new model on an established India production line
The Q3 is already part of Audi’s India production portfolio. Audi says it has produced vehicles at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar site since 2007; the facility also makes the Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, A4 and A6 for the Indian market. The latest announcement marks the start of local assembly of the new Q3, rather than Audi’s first production of the model in India.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, said the start of assembly reflected the capabilities of the Maharashtra plant and the Group’s commitment to supporting its brands in India. Balbir Singh Dhillon, Brand Director of Audi India, described the new Q3 as a product that could help Audi reach a broader customer base and strengthen its presence in the country.
The India–Germany business link
For Audi, the production start brings another current model from its German portfolio onto an established Indian assembly line. It also shows how the Volkswagen Group’s manufacturing operation in Maharashtra supports multiple brands within its India business.
The immediate milestone is limited but clear: assembly has begun ahead of the October launch. Audi has not announced a production volume, a new investment tied specifically to the Q3, or plans to export the India-assembled model. The development is therefore best viewed as a continuation of the German carmaker’s local manufacturing strategy as it prepares to bring the new Q3 to Indian buyers.
