The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Indian and German aerospace sectors, a development that industry leaders say could help expand business partnerships, manufacturing collaboration and global supply-chain integration between the two countries.

The agreement was highlighted in a series of LinkedIn posts by senior aerospace industry executives and industry stakeholders, who described the MoU as a significant step towards fostering closer ties between India’s rapidly growing aerospace ecosystem and Germany’s globally recognised aerospace industry.

While detailed provisions of the agreement have not yet been publicly released by either FICCI or BDLI, the announcement has generated considerable interest across the aerospace community in both countries.

Airbus India Chief Welcomes Industry Partnership

Among those welcoming the development was Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director, Airbus India and South Asia.

In a LinkedIn post, Westermeier described the signing of the MoU between FICCI and BDLI as an important initiative for strengthening cooperation between the aerospace industries of India and Germany.

Referring to the agreement, he wrote: “A great step to strengthen aerospace cooperation between India and Germany.”

Westermeier noted that stronger institutional linkages between industry bodies can help create new opportunities for collaboration across aerospace manufacturing, engineering, innovation and supply-chain development.

The development is particularly relevant at a time when Airbus continues to expand its engagement with India’s aviation and aerospace ecosystem through engineering, manufacturing, training and sourcing partnerships.

Industry Sees Opportunities

The agreement was also highlighted by Manoj Mehta, Chair, FICCI Civil Aviation Committee, who linked the MoU to broader efforts aimed at enhancing aerospace cooperation between India and Germany.
In his LinkedIn post, Mehta described the partnership as an important milestone and emphasised its potential to create stronger industry connections between companies from both countries.

He also referred to opportunities surrounding ILA Berlin 2026, one of Europe’s leading aerospace exhibitions organised by the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), suggesting that the MoU could facilitate greater engagement by Indian aerospace stakeholders in future international industry platforms.

According to Mehta, the agreement provides a framework to strengthen industry-to-industry cooperation and deepen business engagement across the aerospace value chain.

Manufacturing and Engineering Collaboration in Focus

The MoU also received support from Rohan Bailwal, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Aerolance Consulting, who highlighted the growing role of India in global aerospace manufacturing and engineering.

In a LinkedIn post discussing the agreement, Bailwal pointed to India’s increasing capabilities in aerospace manufacturing and engineering services and suggested that closer cooperation with German industry could create new opportunities for companies on both sides.

He noted that India’s engineering talent, manufacturing base and growing aerospace ecosystem position the country as an increasingly important partner for global aerospace programmes.

His comments reflect a broader industry trend, with international aerospace companies increasingly looking to India for engineering, design, digital services, advanced manufacturing and supply-chain diversification.

Strategic Significance for India and Germany

The MoU comes at a time when aerospace is emerging as an increasingly important pillar of the broader India-Germany economic relationship.

The German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI – Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie) is the principal representative body of Germany’s aerospace industry and represents companies operating across aviation, space, defence and security sectors.

India, meanwhile, is one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets and is rapidly expanding its aerospace manufacturing and engineering capabilities through initiatives focused on domestic production, advanced technology development and global supply-chain participation.

Industry observers note that institutional partnerships such as the FICCI-BDLI agreement can play an important role in facilitating business delegations, industry networking, technology partnerships, joint ventures and knowledge exchange between companies from both countries.

New Momentum for a Growing Partnership

Although the detailed roadmap and specific areas of cooperation under the MoU have not yet been made public, the agreement is being viewed as an important signal of intent by both industry bodies.

The partnership comes as India and Germany continue to deepen cooperation across advanced manufacturing, defence, innovation, technology and industrial development. Aerospace is increasingly being recognised as a sector where the strengths of both countries are highly complementary — combining Germany’s technological expertise and industrial capabilities with India’s expanding manufacturing ecosystem, engineering talent and growing market demand.

As India and Germany mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, the FICCI-BDLI MoU is expected to provide a new platform for industry engagement and could help unlock fresh opportunities for collaboration across aviation, aerospace manufacturing, engineering and innovation in the years ahead.
