Hero MotoCorp has appointed Sachin Agrawal as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective 21 May 2026, as the company sharpens its focus on next-generation mobility and strengthens the role of its Germany-based technology hub in global research and development.

Agrawal will lead the company’s innovation and engineering functions across geographies, including oversight of the Hero Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) in India and the Hero Tech Centre Germany. The German facility is expected to play a larger role in developing advanced mobility solutions, particularly in electrification and digital vehicle systems.

Germany emerges as key pillar in R&D push

The appointment signals a deeper integration of Hero MotoCorp’s European engineering capabilities into its global strategy. Located in one of the world’s leading automotive ecosystems, the Hero Tech Centre Germany has increasingly been positioned as a critical node for future technologies, complementing the company’s India-based development operations.

Agrawal is expected to align innovation efforts across both centres, as the company looks to accelerate work on electric mobility and software-driven vehicle platforms.

Industry veteran with cross-technology experience

Agrawal joins from VE Commercial Vehicles—a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors—where he served as Executive Vice President and Head of R&D and Technology.

With nearly 30 years of experience, he has worked across powertrain systems, electric mobility, and emerging digital technologies. He began his career at Daewoo Motors in South Korea, contributing to the Matiz chassis development programme.

His experience spans development across diesel, CNG, electric, and hydrogen platforms, alongside work in connected mobility, artificial intelligence, and software-defined vehicle architecture. He has also held industry roles, including Chairperson of the SIAM Frontier Technology & Innovation Group, and previously led the Global Centre of Excellence for Medium-Duty Engine Development at Volvo Group.

Company bets on technology leadership

Commenting on the appointment, Pawan Munjal said: “We are delighted to welcome Sachin to our leadership team. His deep expertise across mobility technologies and proven track record of driving innovation at scale make him uniquely suited to lead both our technology vision and R&D organization. As we accelerate our journey towards electrification and next-generation mobility solutions, his leadership will be instrumental in shaping a future-ready, customer-centric innovation agenda.”

Focus on electrification and global integration

The leadership change comes as Hero MotoCorp steps up investments in future mobility technologies and global R&D integration. With Germany playing an increasingly prominent role in its innovation network, the company is positioning itself to leverage European engineering strengths alongside its domestic manufacturing scale.

Agrawal’s appointment is expected to be central to this shift, particularly as the company works to bring new-generation products to both Indian and international markets.
