German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is confident that India will soon break into the top five global markets for its premium Maybach range. With cumulative sales of 1,500 Maybach vehicles in the country, the brand sees India as a rapidly growing market for ultra-luxury automobiles.

India Among Top 10 Markets, Poised for Further Growth

Currently, India is among the top 10 markets for the Mercedes-Maybach brand, according to Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach at Mercedes-Benz AG. During his visit to India to unveil the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, Lescow highlighted the country’s increasing appetite for high-end vehicles.

“India is already in the top 10 for Maybach, and the demand is accelerating. The top three markets currently are China, the United States, and Europe,” he said.

Rapid Sales Growth, New Model Allotted for India

In 2024 alone, Mercedes-Maybach sold 500 units in India, marking a staggering 145% year-on-year (YoY) growth. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, emphasized the brand’s strong momentum in the country.

As part of its luxury expansion, Mercedes-Maybach has introduced the SL 680 Monogram Series, a two-seater convertible priced at approximately ₹4.2 crore. Only three units of this exclusive model have been allotted for India, with deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Luxury Experience Expands with Maybach Lounges and Stores

To cater to the growing customer base, Mercedes-Maybach has been expanding its presence in India. The brand inaugurated its first Maybach Lounge in Hyderabad in September 2023, followed by the launch of a Maybach Icons of Luxury store in Bengaluru in January 2024. Plans are underway to open similar outlets in Mumbai and Delhi, offering exclusive access to Maybach-branded luxury products.

India’s Luxury Car Market Hits Record High

Luxury car sales in India have reached unprecedented levels, with the overall market surpassing 51,000 units for the first time in 2024. Mercedes-Benz India recorded its best-ever performance, selling 19,565 vehicles—a 12.4% YoY increase.

“During the first half of 2024, the luxury car segment grew by 9%, and we matched that growth. But in the second half, while the industry slowed to 2-3%, we surged ahead with a 16% increase,” Iyer stated in a recent interview.

Future Roadmap: New Launches and Electric Vehicles

Looking ahead to 2025, Mercedes-Benz India has an ambitious pipeline, with plans to launch eight new models, including two electric vehicles (EVs). In 2024, the company introduced 14 models, four of which were EVs.

Mercedes-Benz India has also witnessed a sharp rise in EV sales, which grew by 94% and now contribute 6% to its overall sales.

With robust demand and an expanding lineup, the German automaker is optimistic about its continued dominance in India’s luxury car segment—potentially making India one of the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach in the near future.
