India reaffirmed its position as a global leader in organic agriculture at BIOFACH 2025, the world’s premier trade fair for organic food, held from February 11 to 14 in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) led a strong contingent of Indian exporters, presenting the country’s diverse organic offerings under the India Pavilion. The event also marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between APEDA and Nuremberg Messe, officially designating India as the Partner Country of the Year for BIOFACH 2026.

India Pavilion Highlights Organic Diversity

The India Pavilion, inaugurated by Shatrughna Sinha, Consul General of India, Munich, and Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA, featured an extensive range of organic products, from pulses, spices, and rice to essential oils and processed foods.

Over 20 exhibitors, including exporters, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and state government representatives, participated in the exhibition, highlighting India’s commitment to sustainable agriculture. Visitors explored a vibrant display of organic products, including turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cashew, cinnamon, and mango puree, showcasing India’s agricultural richness and biodiversity.

India Becomes Partner Country for BIOFACH 2026

A major highlight of the event was the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) on February 11, confirming India’s selection as the Partner Country for BIOFACH 2026. The agreement was signed by Victoria Vehse, Vice President and Member of the Management Board of Nuremberg Messe, and Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA, in the presence of Consul General Shatrughna Sinha.

This collaboration strengthens India’s longstanding ties with BIOFACH, with the country having previously held the Partner Country title in 2012. The partnership will offer India a global platform to reinforce its position as a leading supplier of organic food.

A Culinary and Cultural Showcase

Beyond the product displays, the India Pavilion provided an immersive experience for attendees. A key attraction was the live cooking demonstrations, where visitors savored authentic Indian organic delicacies.

The food tastings featured:

• Aromatic Biryani made with organic Basmati rice and spices

• Golden Turmeric Latte, known for its immunity-boosting benefits

• Millet Dosa, highlighting India’s focus on nutritious and traditional grains

Adding to the cultural experience, the pavilion also showcased Henna Art, a traditional Indian art form symbolizing the country’s rich heritage and artistic diversity.

India Leads Among Non-European Participants

With a rapidly growing organic food market, India emerged as the largest participant from outside Europe at BIOFACH 2025. APEDA’s participation reinforced India’s role as a global supplier of high-quality organic products, aligning with increasing consumer demand for sustainable and eco-friendly food solutions. The event also provided an opportunity for exporters and industry stakeholders to network and explore new business collaborations, strengthening India’s presence in international organic markets.

India Prepares for a Grand BIOFACH 2026

As India gears up to take center stage at BIOFACH 2026, APEDA is set to intensify efforts to promote India’s organic agriculture sector on a global scale. With an emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and quality, the country aims to position itself as the most trusted global supplier of organic food products.

The road to BIOFACH 2026 is expected to witness new collaborations, policy support, and enhanced market access, further solidifying India’s role in the future of organic agriculture.
