After a stellar performance at the Paris Olympics, where the Indian men’s hockey team secured a bronze medal, and a gold-winning campaign at the Asian Champions Trophy in China, the Men in Blue are set to host Germany for a two-match series.
The matches will take place on October 23 and 24 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, marking the first face-off between the two teams since Germany’s narrow 3-2 victory over India in the Paris Olympic semifinals.
A Celebration of Hockey and Indo-German Relations
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series, emphasizing the historic rivalry between the two nations. “This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans an opportunity to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world,” said Tirkey.
Tirkey highlighted the significance of the event in fostering stronger ties between India and Germany, stating that the series would promote the spirit of hockey and strengthen the bond between the two nations.
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the competitive edge the series would provide. “The India-Germany hockey rivalry has always been a thrilling contest. Our players are eager to compete against such a good side, and I believe this series will offer both teams a chance to fine-tune their skills and strategies ahead of future international tournaments,” Singh said.
