Positioning Partnerships: Why Communication Matters in Indo-German Engagement | Sunanda Rao Erdem

In most high-level Indo-German engagements, whether in sustainable development, mobility, education, or innovation, there’s intense focus on strategy, policy, and funding. Yet one vital piece often remains overlooked: Communication, an aspect which was either done half-heartedly or much ignored till now.

For too long, communication has been treated as a supporting act- an afterthought once agreements are signed and partnerships announced. However, having spent many years navigating the space between Indian and German institutions, I’ve seen firsthand how poor or unclear communication can stall even the most well-intentioned collaborations and how good communication can transform them.

At India Week Hamburg 2025, March 26, I’ll be contextualising the session “Positioning Partnerships: How Communication Shapes Indo-German Engagement,” where the topmost stakeholders in this space will examine why communication must be seen not as decoration, but as a vital infrastructure in the ecosystem of businesses and G2G corporations.

In my workshop, I’ll seek to explain how culturally intelligent messaging, strategic storytelling, and consistent engagement can build trust, bridge differences, and ultimately determine the success of a partnership- at all levels.

This session isn’t just a conversation- it’s a call to action for policymakers, business leaders, academics, and communicators alike. Alongside a panel discussion and interactive workshop, the session will offer practical insights for anyone working to strengthen Indo-German ties in a fast-changing world.

In an era of competing narratives and global uncertainty, how we communicate is how we lead. It’s time we give it the attention it deserves.

Looking forward to meet and exchange notes.
