German printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer Schweizer Electronic AG and ILJIN Electronics (India) Pvt. Ltd., part of India’s Amber Group, have announced plans to establish a strategic cooperation aimed at strengthening PCB supply chains between Europe and India.

The proposed partnership, announced on June 26, 2026, will centre on PCB manufacturing through ILJIN Electronics’ subsidiary business, particularly Ascent Circuits, and is expected to support growing demand from automotive and industrial customers in Europe and the United States.

The move comes at a time when electronics manufacturers worldwide are seeking to diversify sourcing networks and reduce supply-chain risks amid evolving geopolitical and economic conditions.

Combining German Technology Expertise with Indian Manufacturing Capacity

Under the planned cooperation, Schweizer Electronic’s experience in automotive and industrial PCB technologies will be combined with Ascent Circuits’ manufacturing footprint and expansion plans in India.

The companies said the initial phase will focus on standard automotive and industrial PCB applications that can be supported through existing manufacturing capabilities. At the same time, both sides intend to develop a roadmap for more advanced multilayer and High-Density Interconnect (HDI) PCB technologies as additional manufacturing capacity becomes available in India.

According to the companies, the cooperation is intended to provide customers with broader sourcing options while improving supply-chain resilience and supporting future technology development.

In a statement announcing the initiative, Schweizer Electronic said the collaboration would help create “additional value for customers in Europe and the US by broadening sourcing options, strengthening supply-chain resilience and building a structured path toward future technology capabilities.”

Focus on Quality Standards and Advanced PCB Technologies

The companies indicated that aligning customer requirements, technical capabilities, production capacity and commercial competitiveness would be a central element of the cooperation.

They also highlighted the importance of maintaining stringent quality, qualification and process standards, particularly for automotive and industrial applications where reliability requirements are high.

Beyond existing product categories, the partners plan to explore opportunities in additional industries where PCB demand is expected to grow over the coming years.

The companies said work would begin on a phased transition towards more sophisticated PCB technologies, including multilayer and HDI applications that are increasingly used in advanced automotive systems, industrial electronics, telecommunications equipment and other high-performance applications.

Reflecting a Broader Shift in Global Electronics Manufacturing

Industry observers note that the announcement reflects a wider trend among electronics manufacturers seeking geographically diversified supply chains and alternative production hubs.

In recent years, India has emerged as an increasingly important destination for electronics manufacturing investment, supported by government initiatives aimed at expanding domestic production capabilities and integrating the country more deeply into global technology supply chains.

Against this backdrop, the proposed cooperation between Schweizer Electronic and ILJIN Electronics is expected to contribute to the development of PCB manufacturing capabilities in India while providing European and American customers with additional sourcing flexibility.

Schweizer Electronic described the initiative as part of efforts to build “diversified, reliable and geopolitically resilient supply chains” within the global electronics industry.

Companies Eye Long-Term Growth Opportunities

While the immediate focus will be on automotive and industrial PCB applications, both companies said they would evaluate future opportunities in other sectors where the partnership could generate long-term value.

For Schweizer Electronic, headquartered in Schramberg, the cooperation provides an opportunity to expand access to India’s growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The company supplies PCB technologies for sectors including automotive, aviation, defence, industrial manufacturing, medical technology and communications.

ILJIN Electronics, part of the Amber Group, operates across PCB manufacturing, PCB assembly, power electronics, industrial automation and electronics manufacturing services. Its customer base spans automotive, telecommunications, consumer electronics, healthcare, renewable energy, aerospace and defence sectors.

The proposed partnership highlights the increasing role of India-Germany industrial cooperation in advanced manufacturing and electronics, as companies from both countries seek to position themselves within evolving global supply chains and emerging technology markets.
