Telangana and the German state of Thuringia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in technology, skill training, startups and life sciences, as both sides look to deepen economic and innovation partnerships.

The agreement was signed on June 3 during a meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and a high-level delegation led by Thuringia Minister-President Mario Voigt in Hyderabad. Telangana ministers D. Sridhar Babu and G. Vivek Venkatswamy were present during the discussions.

The MoU aims to promote collaboration in key sectors including technology, workforce development, entrepreneurship and life sciences, according to official statements and media reports.

Thuringia Seeks Closer Partnership with Telangana

Praising Telangana’s development trajectory, Mario Voigt described the state as a leading centre of innovation and progress in India.

Referring to Telangana’s growth story, Voigt said it occupies a special place in the broader India-Germany partnership.

“The impressive success story of Telangana holds a special place in India-Germany partnership dynamics. We would like to partner with the successful state of Telangana and create a win-win situation for both sides,” he said.

Focus on Skills for the AI Era

During the meeting, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the need to redesign skill-development programmes to meet the requirements of emerging technologies and global labour markets.

He emphasised the importance of preparing young people for employment opportunities in countries facing skilled workforce shortages, including Germany, Japan and South Korea.

The Chief Minister sought Thuringia’s support in strengthening and reshaping the curriculum of the state government’s Young India Skills University (YISU), Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) and polytechnic institutes.

According to official information released after the meeting, Telangana is looking to align its skilling ecosystem with evolving international industry requirements, particularly in the age of artificial intelligence.

Proposal for Tailor-Made Training Programmes

Responding to Telangana’s request, Voigt said Thuringia’s industry and academic institutions could work with Telangana to create customised training programmes.

“A need-based, tailor-made skilling curriculum could be created for Telangana, in collaboration with Thuringia’s industry and academia,” he said.

The discussions also included workforce preparation and industry-oriented skill development initiatives designed to meet future employment demands.

German Language Training Centre Proposed

As part of the discussions on workforce mobility, Revanth Reddy also sought Thuringia’s support in establishing a German language training centre in Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister stressed that language training, alongside technical skills, would help enhance employment opportunities for Telangana’s youth in Germany and other international markets.

He further noted that rapid advances in artificial intelligence require a significant transformation in skilling and training approaches.

The agreement marks another step in expanding state-level cooperation between India and Germany, with Telangana and Thuringia exploring opportunities to leverage their respective strengths in innovation, education, industry and human capital development.
