Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal addressed the Indo-German Young Leaders Forum (IGYLF) in New Delhi on Friday, 10 October, speaking on the theme “Recent Acts Which Will Shape India and Build a Stable Democracy.”

During his address, Mr. Meghwal outlined key legislative reforms introduced in recent years aimed at strengthening India’s democratic institutions, improving governance, and ensuring transparency. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been working to build a more accountable and inclusive democracy.

The Minister noted that the interaction between Indian and German participants — including young professionals, academics, and policymakers — contributes to better mutual understanding and collaboration between the two countries. He described such exchanges as useful in sharing ideas on governance and innovation.

Forum Overview

The Indo-German Young Leaders Forum, founded in 2016 and formally acknowledged in the 2017 joint declaration between Prime Minister Modi and then-Chancellor Angela Merkel, brings together emerging leaders from both countries to discuss issues of shared interest. The 2025 edition, held in New Delhi, included thematic discussions, policy dialogues, and cultural visits.

On October 11, 2025, delegates from the forum visited Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib in Delhi for an introduction to Sikh history and philosophy through a holographic presentation organised by the International Centre for Sikh Studies. The visit was facilitated by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who said the delegates engaged in a discussion on Sikhism’s emphasis on equality and community service.

German participant Malte Hohlfeld, Executive Chairman of Global Bridges, described India as “a diverse country that remains remarkably united,” highlighting the visit as a valuable cultural exchange experience.

The forum concluded with deliberations on governance reforms, digital innovation, and youth leadership as areas of future India–Germany cooperation.
