India and Germany have reaffirmed their intent to deepen bilateral cooperation as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Berlin for high-level consultations, coinciding with the launch of a commemorative logo marking 75 years of diplomatic relations.

The visit, held on 14 April, under the framework of the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), saw both sides undertake a comprehensive review of the India–Germany Strategic Partnership and outline priorities for future collaboration.

75-Year Milestone Celebrated with Joint Logo

India and Germany jointly unveiled a special logo to mark 75 years of diplomatic ties, highlighting the longevity and evolving nature of the relationship.

The consultations were co-chaired by FS Misri and German State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the meeting offered an opportunity to “take stock of the current status of bilateral relations and explore avenues for further strengthening the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.”

Wide-Ranging Review of Strategic Partnership

The discussions covered a broad spectrum of cooperation, including trade and investment, defence and security, digital governance, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.

“The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to take stock of the current status of bilateral relations and explore avenues for further deepening the India-Germany Strategic Partnership,” the MEA said.

Both countries agreed to expand collaboration in future-oriented sectors such as critical and emerging technologies, renewable energy, green hydrogen, industrial partnerships, and innovation.

“They agreed to further deepen and diversify cooperation in areas of contemporary relevance… including critical and emerging technologies, defence, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development cooperation in third countries,” the statement added.

High-Level Political Engagement in Berlin

During his visit, Secretary Misri also met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who “appreciated the steady progress in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.”

Both sides agreed to broaden and deepen engagement across key sectors, signalling continued political momentum in bilateral ties.

Focus on Global Developments and Strategic Alignment

In addition to bilateral issues, the consultations included an exchange of views on regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia–Ukraine conflict.

The dialogue also underscored the importance of India–Germany and broader India–EU cooperation in addressing global challenges such as energy security, resilient supply chains, and technological transitions.

Engagement with German Policy Community

As part of the visit, Minister Misri interacted with members of Germany’s foreign policy establishment, parliamentarians, and representatives of the Körber Foundation.

These discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, and innovation, while also addressing evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics.

A Milestone Year for Bilateral Relations

The Berlin consultations come at a significant juncture, with 2026 marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Germany.

The milestone follows the 25th anniversary of the India–Germany Strategic Partnership in 2025 and reflects a relationship that is increasingly anchored in technology, sustainability, and global cooperation.

FS Misri’s visit to Berlin signals a renewed push to elevate India–Germany ties, with both countries aligning their strategic priorities in emerging sectors and global governance. The 75-year milestone serves not only as a moment of reflection but also as a platform to shape the next phase of this key partnership.
